Cheadle & District Amateur Swimming Club and Little Otters Swim School Cheadle, Staffordshire

Little Otters

If your child has no experience of swimming and they are ready to learn then they must be at least 4 years old. We have beginners ranging from 4 years old, up to 13 years old.

We run all our beginner's classes under the A.S.A Award Scheme; we also offer opportunity to obtain distance badges and other recognizable certificates. Structured professional lessons are conducted by our experienced A.S.A trained teaching staff on side and in the water with you child to ensure maximum safety and teaching effectiveness. Class sizes are small and friendly to ensure the highest quality of teaching.

Lessons for the Little Otters Swim School are run on a 10 weekly basis. Fees for the 10 weeks are £25 payable in advance. On joining the swim school there is an annual payment of £5 for membership to Cheadle ASC.

Beginners lessons take place on Sundays at 1-1.30pm or 1.30-2pm, and also on Wednesdays at 7-7.30pm or 7.30-8pm at South Moorlands Leisure Centre, Cheadle.

Change in assessment (March 2008)

The Little Otters Swim School follows the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) national teaching plan for swimming. The ASA has recently made some changes to this plan, and so for us to plan and run our lessons successfully we have to adhere to these changes. The main change is that in order to pass each level the swimmers now have to obtain a teachers signature in a minimum of 8 elements, and the other two elements must have at least a tick, if a cross is placed in the box the required standard is not being met and the level will not be passed. It is the opinion of all the teachers at Little Otters that this is a step in the right direction as it ensures that all the fundamental skills and strokes are achieved at the appropriate time.
