Discipline

The Committee, the coaches and teachers, will not tolerate certain types of behaviour. Any behaviour involving physical violence, threatening behaviour or verbal abuse will result in immediate expulsion from the activity. If this happens then the person(s) will be suspended from all Club activities until the Committee has met to discuss the matter and agree an outcome.

If a swimmer misbehaves during a Club activity, the Coach/teacher will issue a verbal warning. If a swimmer is issued with three verbal warnings during a single activity they will be asked to withdraw – e.g. during training they will immediately leave the pool. If a swimmer is asked to withdraw from an activity on more than one occasion, the matter will be referred to the Committee and may result in a suspension from Club activities.

Behaviour which will constitute a warning:

1. Failure to start a session on time as a result of wasting time in the changing rooms, dawdling or chatting on the poolside. Wherever possible swimmers should arrive 10 - 15 minutes prior to training in order to change and perform a land warm-up to prevent injury.
2. Unauthorised toilet breaks; no going to the toilet unless at a given point by the coach. Coaches expect swimmers to train for at least one and a half hours without the need for a toilet break. As a matter of courtesy swimmers should seek permission from the coach before leaving the poolside.
3. Stopping, standing at the shallow end or climbing out of the pool to speak to parents or visit the changing room or float room. All equipment needed for a session should be brought onto poolside before the session starts – including spare goggles. The coach should be the first person a swimmer approaches if a problem arises.
4. Chatting and not paying attention when the coach is addressing the group. Full attention should be given to the coach at all times – not doing so is rude and disrespectful.
5. Missing unpopular sets or not starting them on time. Missing out turns, walking on the bottom of the pool during a set and faking cramp or injury. Ensure the highest standard of performance at all times – always streamline off the wall, always kick off the wall.
6. Throwing or kicking equipment (floats etc) and general misbehaviour during a Club activity. Use equipment properly as directed by the Coach, e.g heart/pulse rate monitors etc.
7. Any other behaviour deemed inappropriate by the coach.
